WHEN YOU'RE HOT -- YOU'RE HOT; WHEN YOU'RE NOT--YOU'RE NOT!!!!
Memorial Day officially marks the beginning of summer and the start of camping season. Many will spend moments sitting around a campfire. Once you have a fire going, you need to keep putting logs on the fire or else the fire is going to go out. Fires can sometimes be raging out of control, but if there is not enough fuel to keep a fire going, it is natural for the fire to go out!!
How is your personal fire burning? Are you on fire for Jesus? Are you passionate about serving our Lord and making a difference in his name? We need to intentionally spend time with God and seek His face or else the fire is going to go out! This is the time of year, when many begin to disappear from the life of the church. Now isn't the time to go AWOL! Now is the time to get fired up about Jesus! John Wesley, founder of Methodism, once siad, "Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn." How enthusiastic are we about God? How passionate are we about Jesus? Methodists were once seen as "holy rollers" and those with a holy passion of heart and life. Have we left the fire die???
The greatest commandment in all of scripture calls us to love God with an all consuming love. In his paraphrase of scripture, Eugene Peterson puts it this way: "Love God, your God with your whole heart; love him with all that's in you, love him with all you've got." Nothing else in life is as important as fulfilling this commandment.
Passion makes a huge difference. It is evident to others whether we are passionate about Jesus or if we are simply going through the motions of a superficial Christian spirituality. As you "put another log on the fire" in the months ahead, ask yourself how you are fueling your own relationship with Jesus. Is your love for God "RED HOT" or have things begun to cool? When you're hot, you're hot. When you're not, you're not!! Let's catch on fire with enthusiasm and burn as we love God with all we've got!!!
